BIRGITTASTUGAN
Dalavägen 12, Idre
Birgittastugan is an old house with all the conveniences you would expect in a modern home: dishwasher, fridge, freezer, induction cooker, washing machine, drying cabinet, scrubber, and electric heating in all rooms, as well as a large flat screen TV (48 inches) and wi-fi. A power outlet for engine heaters is located next to the front door. There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with two beds, and a larger room with a sofa bed that can be sectioned off with a curtain. The sofa in the living room on the lower floor is also a sofa bed. In other words, with sofa beds, it will accommodate six people. There are plenty of books, some magazines and lots of puzzles on the bookshelves. Please feel free to read the books and play with the puzzles, but they belong to the house so do leave everything for future guests.
The house, which sits atop the Dalaberget in Idre, was built in the 18th century and originally stood in Korsnäs village outside the town of Falun. Due for demolition when a new road was drawn through the area in the early 70s, it was bought by Birgitta Lintner and moved to Idre. Birgitta lived there throughout her life, and, since 2015, the house has been owned by her son Bertil Lintner, an author and journalist who is a permanent resident of Chiang Mai, Thailand. He renamed the house Birgittastugan (“the Birgitta Cottage”) in honour of his mother. The house has been renovated recently and the entire floor downstairs is new, though the floor upstairs may still creak a bit. Keep in mind that it’s an old house …
